Welcome to Scytale, Inc.

Scytale is an applications software and professional services company primarily involved in the technology and information processing needs of the Federal Government. Scytale was established as an US entity on January 1st, 2000 and has continued to grow at a steady pace over the last 8 years. In 2005, Scytale became a true international company by securing a contract with NATO. Since then, we also have contractually engaged with Australia and Canada, and have increasing interest from other countries as well.

Scytale continues to distinguish ourselves as a leader in the COMSEC accounting "business" by delivering innovative software products and professional services. Our principle application is known as CARDS (COMSEC Accounting, Reporting and Distribution System), which is described in more detail within this website. Scytale also continues to develop ancillary features and modules to enhance the benefits to our client set. The company provides on site staffing in support of the CARDS application and COMSEC processes.

Scytale has recently begun to explore opportunities in the banking sector and "First Responders" to address their needs to interact with the civil agencies and the DOD in emergency situations. Scytale is strategically located in the center of the Washington and Baltimore corridor in Columbia, Maryland with easy access to major international airports. A second office was recently opened in Westminster, Maryland to accommodate our increasing staff of professionals.

The name Scytale is derived from an Ancient Cryptographic device described as being used by the Spartans during their military campaigns. A Scytale consisted of a thin paper or leather strip, wrapped around a wooden dowel.

Messages were written along the length of the strip on the dowel. After the strip was unwrapped, the message could only be clearly read by wrapping the strip around a dowel of the same dimensions. Couriers hid the strip in (or sometimes even as) their belts or sashes.
